What a way to celebrate our 40th season. Our high-flying and rambunctious production of Die Fledermaus was a success! Just see what Opera News had to say about it:
Stage director and choreographer Kyle Lang cleverly balanced elements of Viennese sophistication and propriety with the dirty little secrets that played out behind the façade. Lang relied less on slapstick and more on knowing facial gestures, intricate timing and slick, choreographed movement, keeping the farce light and carefree. But he rewrote the rules for Abigail Levis’ characterization of Orlofsky. Levis stole the show as the bored Russian prince with broad, physical humor and an accent rumored to be based on Felonius Gru from Dispicable Me. At times, the pampered prince jumped into the hulking arms of the valet, played by Utah Opera Artistic Director Christopher McBeth, in a quasi-pair’s ice skating pose.
