2014-2015 Utah Opera Season Announcement
We are so excited for Utah Opera’s 2014-15 Season! Artistic Director Christopher McBeth has announced that the company’s 37th season will feature Utah Opera premieres of Georges Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers and Igor Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and the highly demanded returns of Giacomo Puccini’s Madame Butterfly and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Così fan tutte. The season will also feature the debut of Utah Symphony’s Music Director Thierry Fischer in his first Utah Opera conducting role, leading The Rake’s Progress.
All four productions will be staged at Capitol Theatre, which underwent renovations during the summer and fall of 2013. Utah Opera will be building new sets and costumes for Madame Butterfly in its state-of-the-art production studios – a huge undertaking that will keep our expert craftsmen busy the whole summer. Stay tuned to our blog as we take you behind the scenes when construction begins!
The 2014-15 season will take you around the world starting with Madame Butterfly, the tale a Japanese woman who waits for her one true love to return to her. In the end she must choose between her love for an American and her honor. In January, The Pearl Fishers takes you to India and tells of a dangerous love triangle. March brings Così fan tutte, a comedy that tests fidelity and friendship. The season ends with The Rake’s Progress, a story that hinges on the devil in the details. The lights! The costumes! The music! It’s all so opulent, how can you resist?!
