Posted by Opera Gal in Music, Productions 04 Apr 2012

Have you always wanted to sing on the Utah Opera stage? Here’s your chance! Auditions for the 2012-13 Utah Opera Chorus will be next Thursday, April 12 between 4 and 8:30. If you are a trained singer with stage experience, contact Shaun Ricks at sricks@usuo.org to sign up for an audition. Have one aria or art song to sing from memory, and be prepared to do some sight-singing. Auditions are by appointment only.

If you have any questions, contact Shaun!

Do you provide an accompanist or do I have to bring one? Also, where are the auditions?

Hi Aerin! Yes, we provide an accompanist. Auditions are at the Utah Opera studios – 336 North 400 West.

    Is there a minimum age?

Hi Ali! We don’t have a minimum age, per se, but I think the rehearsal schedule and time commitment might be difficult if you’re not at least out of high school.

I know this was posted last spring, but I was just wondering in general, is singing in the Utah Opera a paid position? And also generally speaking, what are rehearsal schedules generally (mornings, afternoons, or evenings and for about how many hours a day and how many days a week)? Thanks!

Hi Miriam! The members of the chorus are compensated with a small stipend when the perform. The schedule varies depending on which operas need a chorus and which don’t, but the rehearsals are generally in the evenings and on weekends.
